Business Unity South Africa (Busa) has welcomed the newly appointed Eskom board with a mix of relevant skills and expertise.
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan announced the power utility's reconstituted board on Friday.
The 13-member board comprises of at least five engineers, chartered accountants, union representative and experts in energy policy and electricity delivery.
In a statement released on Saturday, Business Unity SA CEO Cas Coovadia says the appointment of the new board marks an important step in the right direction to ameliorate the load-shedding crisis.
"We believe this board, together with the executive will instil confidence that Eskom will address the critical issues it needs to and play a part in developing appropriate energy infrastructure in SA. We request the government to give the new board and executive the space to work with urgency on addressing the current crisis and stabilizing Eskom over the medium to long term. BUSA stands ready to play its role in facilitating private sector participation in this critical area," says Coovadia.
