Police Minister Bheki Cele is expected to visit Diepsloot on Wednesday afternoon amid rising anger among community members over the high crime rate in the area.
Residents are demanding more police visibility to ensure the safety of residents.
Seven people were reportedly shot dead and 14 others injured in separate incidents over the weekend.
Cele will be joined by new national police commissioner Fannie Masemola and Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko.
They are expected to engage angry community members and outline steps government will take to curb the number of murders and other violence crimes in the area, north of Johannesburg.
Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla says officers are keeping a watchful eye on the protestors.
“Police remain on high alert following protest action by residents of Diepsloot SAPS. They are demanding the deployment of SAPS TRT, SARS and Home Affairs and the addition of more visible policing in the area. Overnight several roads were barricaded with burning tires and rocks.
“We are expecting more demonstrations and protests and officers have been deployed and will keep on monitoring the area and act on any disruptions and disturbances,” says Fihla.
Gauteng police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says no arrests have been made as the protests have been relatively peaceful.
