Child swept away in Johannesburg flash floods

A search is underway for a child who was swept away during the flash floods in Johannesburg today.

Dobsonville residents reported the child missing this afternoon.
Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says: "A child has been swept away by a strong current along Elias Motsoaledi Road in Dobsonville."

In a separate incident, one person died following an accident during the heavy rain.
However, Minnaar says the exact cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed.
"The accident happened on Mnandi Road in Diepsloot. It did happen in the rain, but the cause of the accident will be investigated."
Arterial routes had been flooded and cars swept away during the heavy downpour.
