Covid-19 cases surge in three provinces
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has warned of an increase in Covid-19 infections in three of the country's provinces.

A statement released on Wednesday morning reveals that the Northern Cape, the North West and the Free State have recorded a surge in cases.
The number of active cases in the Free State has increased to 2 205, while the Northern Cape has 3 358 and North West 2 601.
Senior epidemiologist Dr Harry Moultrie says the NCID is trying to determine if the rise in cases can be attributed to cluster outbreaks.

"We will recommend increased testing and contact tracing to contain the situation and limit further spread."
Fears have been growing that the country will be approaching a third wave of infections.
It is still not known when the third wave is most likely to hit, but on Tuesday night a total of 853 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in South Africa.
The number of deaths also increased to 130, bringing the total number of fatalities as a result of the deadly virus to 53 887.
