Damaged school keeps Middelburg pupils at home

A primary school in Middelburg in Mpumalanga has asked their pupils to remain at home on the first day of the 2020 school year.

This comes after the school structure was severely damaged during heavy rainfall in the area.
Public schools across the country are expected to open their doors on Wednesday for the start of the new academic year.

Mpumalanga education spokesperson Jasper Zwane says they have asked pupils in grade 1 to grade 4 at Aoront Primary School to remain at home.
“The school is relatively ready, but there area few issues that need to be taken care of so that by the 20th we should have that school operational.
“They will know after the 20th if they will be in a new school, learning.”
Twelve other schools have also reported structural damage as a result of the heavy rainfall in the province.
