Detaining Zuma without trial is provocation: Manyi

The Jacob Zuma Foundation says people will continue to take to the streets in a show of support for former president Jacob Zuma, who they want to be released from jail.

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN)'s been rocked by multiple demonstrations with Durban seeing the highest concentration of protests.

The foundation’s spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi was reacting to supporters' anger over the former president's jailing.

"People of South Africa have been provoked and they are responding to the provocation," he says.

"It is our view that to detain a person without trial is a provocation. So we call upon the authorities to remove the provocation so that calm can be automatically restored."

Traffic was affected or stopped on major routes, including the N2, the N3, and the cargo transit route of the M7. 

Manyi's described the Pietermaritzburg High Court's ruling on Friday as malicious. 

"Whats is the point? What is there to be gained by president Zuma being in jail whilst those who decided to be in jail are still involved in the discussion to establish whether what they did was right or not? So why keep him in jail while you are still arguing about how he did this thing?" he asks. 

Zuma's plea before the Constitutional Court to rescind its jail order against him will be heard on Monday.
