Former SBV guard in court for 2019 theft of R4m

Gauteng police have arrested a former security guard who allegedly stole R4 million at Mall of Africa in July 2019.

Bathobile Mlangeni (29), who was an employee at cash-in-transit company SBV, allegedly cut open two bulk cash bags and put the money into refuse bags.
She was later caught on CCTV footage allegedly walking out with the bags on a trolley.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says they received a tip-off that she was hiding in Zola, Soweto.
“The former employee of SBV who was sought for alleged theft of millions of rands was arrested on Thursday 6 January in Zola, Soweto, she appeared today in court on a charge of theft.”
Mlangeni appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court on Friday morning, where her bail hearing was postponed to 17 January for legal representation.
