Gauteng emergency services unveiled 220 new ambulances for the province
on Wednesday.
Twenty are Intensive Care Unit ambulances and the remaining 200 are for Intermediate Life Support.
The Gauteng Health Department also revealed that they had recruited more people as part of efforts to improve services in the sector.
“Over the last 3 months there has been over 160 new recruits added to the establishment as part efforts to improve service delivery,” the department said in a statement on Wednesday.
The launch comes as the country moves into the festive season and Gauteng remains the epicenter of the current fourth wave of Covid-19 infections, with the active case load now standing at 62 718.

The department added that emergency services receive more than 47 000 calls annually during November and December.
“The Gauteng EMS on average receives 47 916 and 47 657 annual calls for November and December respectively. Most of the cases received during this period are for motor vehicle accidents, assaults, and gunshot wounds.”
