The Gauteng Department of Education has requested that a high-ranking police officer head up the investigation into the alleged rape of child with Down Syndrome.
The 13-year-old, who attended a school on the East Rand, allegedly raped by an employee on August 5.
The boy's mother told the Sowetan newspaper that the general worker allegedly locked the boy in a classroom.
She is quoted as saying that instead of dealing with the matter, the principal said her son would have to spend three months away from school until investigations were concluded.
