Emergency services across Gauteng are on high alert following a South African Weather Service warning for disruptive rain and severe thunderstorms.

The weather service issued warnings for possible severe downpours in various parts of the country, including Gauteng.
A Yellow Level 4 warning was issued for Tshwane, while Johannesburg is on a Level 2 warning.
Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said they are monitoring all seven regions of the city, especially communities in informal settlements.
"City of Joburg EMS Aquatic Rescue Unit, which is a specialised unit which responds to water-related emergencies, remains on high alert monitoring all seven regions of the City of Johannesburg.
“Residents are urged to avoid crossing river streams when conducting daily activities, monitor young children to stay away from river streams and drainage systems,
“Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving, extend safe following distance, and avoid crossing flooded roads and low-lying bridges.”
In Tshwane, the city’s emergency services spokesperson, Charles Mabaso, said they are also monitoring areas prone to flooding.
“We call on communities to observe the following safety measures: If possible, stay indoors and away from metal objects, do not seek shelter under trees or tall objects, do not go fishing or play golf, as both golf clubs and fishing rods are good conductors of electricity.
“Avoid crossing flooded low-lying roads, bridges and swollen streams, be aware that any combination of hail, strong winds, heavy rain and/or excessive lighting can accompany storms.”
