Schools in Gauteng have seen a rise in incidents of crime, substance abuse, bullying between teachers and pupils and violence among pupils.

"Collaboration and active citizenry among different role players are key determinants for successful efforts at making school safety a success, as no single party or entity has all the solutions,” said Masuku.

"The committee is yet to present a Focus Intervention Study (FIS) report on the implementation of school safety regulations to the Provincial Legislature.”

Pupils across the province kicked off the 2024 academic year last week.

However, for some 21,000 grade 1 and 8 pupils, it's a different story as they are yet to be placed in schools.

Education MEC in the Province Matome Chiloane assured parents on Sunday that his department is doing its best to ensure that all pupils are placed.
