The brazen child-snatching made national headlines last year amid fears of a spike in kidnappings across the country.

The 11-year-old from E. P. Baumann Primary School in Mayfair was safely returned home on Wednesday, almost two months after her disappearance.

She was found at a house in Devland, Soweto, and taken for a medical checkup before being reunited with her family.

One suspect was arrested in Mozambique in December before the successful recovery.

According to police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda, Interpol is busy with the extradition process.

“Two other suspects, Ayanda Kekana (50) and Fortune Kambule Ndlovu (36) were arrested in December 2021 in connection with the same kidnapping and their bail application was denied when they appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on 7 December 2021,” says Netshiunda.

“They will be back in court on Friday, 7 January 2022.”

The motive for the kidnapping remains unknown.
