The City of Johannesburg says it will not pay the ransom demanded by hackers.
The city's network was breached on Thursday by hackers, who are demanding a ransom of 4 bitcoin, valued at approximately R400 000.
The breach led to unauthorised access to the city’s information systems.
The hackers are threatening to leak customers' data on the internet if its demands are not met.

Finance MMC Funzela Ngobeni briefed the media on Monday saying that they are confident that systems will be back to full capacity by the end of the day.
"The individuals responsible have demanded 4 bitcoins valued at approximately R400 000 by today.
"I can confirm that the city will not concede to their demand and we are confident that we will be able to restore our system to full functionality."
Ngobeni confirmed that some systems are already up and running.
"If we continue to continue on this trajectory we should be able to restore 80% of all our system by close of business today.
"We have managed to bring up some of our critical customer-facing systems from the technical perspective. Such as our billing system, our property evaluation system, land information system, our e-health and libraries services.”
