The Gauteng Department of Education has reacted with shock at the kidnapping of 5-year-old Amy-Lee de Jager outside Kollegepark Primary school in Vanderbijlpark.

Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi visited the school on Monday.
De Jager, who is in grade R, was taken allegedly by four men driving a white Fortuner outside the school on Monday morning.
The kidnappers have since asked for an R2 million ransom.

"The MEC is shocked about the incident, a school is an environment where it should be safe and learners can freely get an education so it is sad that it happened around our school," says the department's Steve Mabona.
Mabona says a psycho-social team has been dispatched to the school.
