Light at the end of the tunnel for Pretoria East residents

The City of Tshwane is confident that power in large parts
of Pretoria East will be back on by midnight on Sunday.

Residents have been without power since Tuesday when the Wapadrand substation caught fire due to a technical fault.
The city’s Darryl Moss says technicians, who are working on the Wapadrand substation, will be doing trial runs on Sunday to ensure everything is running smoothly.

"Significant progress has been made at the burnt Wapadrand substation to get it up and running again with a view to restoring power to all the affected areas.
"Testing and protection on one of the two panels has been successfully completed. All things being equal, the city's engineers and technicians are working hard to ensure power restoration," Moss says.
If there are no glitches during the trial runs the city will switch the lights back on.
Moss says the city will communicate with home owners to switch off their generators in order to prevent electrical power back-feed.
