It’s alleged that the toddler’s mother left her with a neighbour before the 3-year-old girl disappeared last week.

Her body was found on the same day with open wounds, dumped in a nearby river.

Provincial police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says the suspect was found hiding at a local farm on Monday.

“The owner of the farm allegedly informed members of the community who immediately took the suspect to the bushes and severely assaulted him.

“The police in Bela-Bela were then notified and reacted swiftly to the scene. Upon arrival, with the backup of the Modimolle Public Order Police Unit, the suspect was rescued from the angry mob,” Ngoepe adds.

The suspect is expected to appear in Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
