Updated | By Sibahle Motha
While most of South Africa is shivering and battling bitterly cold conditions, residents in the Richtersveld Municipality in the Northern Cape have been advised to brace for an extraordinary hot week ahead.
The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has confirmed that residents of the municipality will be hit by a heatwave.
Temperatures in the area are expected to rise to 25 degrees from today until Friday.
SAWS senior forecaster, Jacqueline Modika, says the heatwave is only expected to break by the week end.

“The SAWS has an advisory out for the Richtersveld Municipality in the Northern Cape with persistent high temperatures that are expected until Friday. After Friday, a cold front system is expected to move in where the heatwave conditions are expected to be broken.
“On average temperatures for this time of the year are much higher when we have part of the Northern Cape and the Western Cape experiencing temperatures in excess of 25 degrees in various places. This is why during this winter season this will classify as heatwave conditions because this is much higher than the average temperature or maximum temperature for this time of the year.”
