Load shedding won’t be used to favour political party: Eskom
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Eskom’s system controls general manager Isabel Fick says the power utility will never limit or not implement load shedding to favour a specific political party in the run-up to next year’s elections.
Fick was responding to questions during an Eskom webinar on myths and facts about the electricity grid stability on Wednesday.
The remarks come amid fears that the ANC could use loads shedding as a tool to garner votes in the run-up to the general elections.
The planned power cuts is expected to be one of the main issues when South Africans decide on which party to vote for.
“We will always do load shedding to stabilise the network, the stability of the network is our number one concern, and we will keep it stable even if it means we increase stages of load shedding,” Fick said.
“In terms of exemptions of load shedding, it has to be done on an equitable basis. There are some exemptions or possibilities of special events that we can consider, but we would only do so if the network allows. If it does not allow, we will load shed to whatever stage we need to to keep the network stable.”
