Look up to the sky there's a meteor shower
Updated | By Laila Majiet & Sibahle Motha
A meteor shower will light up the night sky on Saturday.
Elias Aydi from the SA Astronomical Observatory says it's expected to be
a “beautiful light show”.
The annual Orionid meteor shower will be a display of between 10 and 20 meteorites in the sky per hour.
"A meteorite is a large rock passing through the atmosphere of the earth. It burns and evaporates and leaves behind a trail of gasses due to its high speed," Aydi explains.
He says many people wrongly call it a shooting star and jokes about the phenomenon of wishing upon a shooting star.
