A 39-year-old man who allegedly raped a 21-year-old pregnant woman is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court in Limpopo on Monday.
The suspect, who is known to the victim, was arrested just a day after the incident took place at Leshikishiki village in Lebowakgomo on Saturday.
"According to the information, the victim was sleeping when she heard a knock, her grandmother advised her to find out as to who was knocking. Apparently, she was surprised to see the man known to her already in the house," says police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba.
"The same man threatened the victim and forced her to accompany him to his RDP house, around the village, and on arrival, he raped her."
The provincial commissioner of police, Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the arrest.
"Victims of rape or any sexual offence are encouraged to report these cases without shame so that those rapists can be removed from the community."
