Four men have been arrested at different illegal mining sites along the R37 between Burgersfort and Lebowakgomo.
Provincial police spokesperson Motlafelo Mojapelo says the suspects were nabbed in an overnight police operation.
"Four suspects aged 36, 41, 56, and 61 were immediately arrested and their mining machinery confiscated," he says.
The suspects will appear in court soon on charges of contravening the provisions of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Act and the National Environmental Maintenance Act.
"The latest success brings the total number of suspects arrested for similar charges to nine," Motlafelo confirms.
