Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni, and Gauteng Premier, David Makhura are at each other's throats on Twitter over the contentious e-tolls issue.
On Monday, Makhura delivered his State of the Province Adress (Sopa) and said his government remains "determined to ensure that e-tolls are not part of the future of our province.
"We anxiously await the finalisation of details by the national government on the mechanics of settling the debt," said Makhura.
However, Mboweni took to Twitter to say that the user-pay model remains, and calling the Premier to order.
I am certain that the Premier of Gauteng knows that you have to be careful before you pick up a fight with a National Minister of Finance. The one who controls allocations! I would be careful if I were him. USER /CONSUMER PAYS!

I don’t know why the middle and upper classes in Gauteng want to complicate our lives. The working class do not pay e-tolls!! Public transport! Hello..

Makhura did not take kindly to the comments, Tweeting that he has referred the matter to the Presidency.

I have referred the e-tolls matter to President@CyrilRamaphosa for final resolution; My engagements him and Minister @MbalulaFikile have been positive. Minister @tito_mboweni can continue to tweet as he cooks; he is a Minister, not the President. #NoTurningBack

Tasneem Motara, ANC Gauteng spokesperson has said that they are disappointed in Mboweni's Tweets and that the provincial ANC structures would seek a meeting with the Minister to explain their position.
