Mduduzi Manana to plead guilty
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Former deputy higher education Minister, Mduduzi Manana, is expected to plead guilty to assault.
His lawyer, Michael Motsoeneng, had confirmed that Manana would plead guilty to both charges of assault.
Manana is accused of slapping two women at a popular Fourways restaurant last month.
He appeared in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
He had admitted to hitting one of the women and resigned as deputy Minister shortly thereafter.
He however remains a member of Parliament.
A scuffle broke out in court - with members in the public gallery exchanging words.
Manana is currently out on R5000 bail.
A second suspect has reportedly also been arrested in court in connection with the assault.
More on this story as it happens.
