Mkhize was delivering a lecture at the Rabie Ridge community hall on Wednesday night, on the importance of unity in the party.

Mkhize said that no splinter group should emerge from the conference.

"We are tired of breakaways and we want to make sure that out of this conference, we don't have any splinter organisation", says Mkhize.

The ANC has been at war with itself over which delegate would emerge as the ruling party's next president.

Six ANC members are gunning for the position - including Dr Zweli Mkhize, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Jeff Radebe, Matthews Phosa and Lindiwe Sisulu.

However, the scales seem to be tipped between Ramaphosa and Dlamini-Zuma.

Mkhize says that tensions over favorable candidates were unnecessary.

"There is no need for the ANC to have so much conflict and tensions because we are choosing different leaders", says Mkhize.

Mkhize says delegates should be happy with any leader that would come out on top, because they come from the ANC.
