Mmusi Maimane resigns from Parliament, DA

Former Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Mmusi Maimane resigned as a Member of Parliament (MP) and member of the DA on Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, Maimane resigned as leader of the DA, a development that came hot on the heels of the election of Helen Zille as chairperson of the party’s federal council.

I have worked tirelessly to build the project of One SA for All. It’s been my greatest honour to serve the people of SA and will continue to do so. I have today resigned from the DA and Parliament. Thank you to the people of this country for your faith in our nation. God bless SA

At the time, he said would stay on as parliamentary leader until the end of the year.
On Wednesday, the DA's federal chair, Athol Trollip, also announced his resignation and speculation has been rife that more resignations could be expected.
