New unit to curb reckless driving in Joburg
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The metro police in Johannesburg has set up a Transport Unit that will focus on curbing reckless driving in the city.
Metro police chief David Tembe says unit, which will be manned by 80 officers, will ensure that motorists who do not obey the rules of the road are held accountable.
"If we don't specialise we just have officers who go around doing things without specialising. I want to hold the commander accountable when there's anything that has to do with transport.

"You'll find there's a vehicle driving oncoming traffic and some other vehicles that hit-and-run so they'll specialise on this regard."
Tembe says the unit will be using both mark and unmarked cars when on patrol.
