No land invasions in Gauteng, regardless of political affiliation: Makhura
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
Gauteng Premier David Makhura on Friday said the province's mayors have a responsibility to uphold and enforce the law, regardless of their political affiliation.
This comes after allegations by the DA in Tshwane and Johannesburg that the ANC were behind recent illegal land invasion in the province.
The DA claims the alleged orchestrations were aimed at destabilising government.
Addressing journalists in Johannesburg, Makhura said government has a number of measures to deal with the issue.
"We must act to prevent land invasions. Who is involved is immaterial to us. People are breaking the law, we must take action. Whether they are your partners in the municipality or not, it doesn't matter to us. Whether its ANC people, it doesn't matter to us. We are the authority," Makhura said.
Makhura reiterated that land invasions would not be allowed in Gauteng.
"We shall continue, as we have done over the past two year, to work with communities, law enforcement agencies and municipalities to prevent any land invasion in our province, regardless who is behind it."
