Petrol down, diesel up in December

Petrol down, diesel up in December

The Department of Energy handed some motorists an early Christmas present on Friday when it announced the latest fuel price adjustments for December.

Petrol Increase

The new fuel prices will come into effect on Wednesday.

Both grades of petrol will decrease by 13 cents a litre, while diesel to increase by just under 20 cents a litre and paraffin by 29 cents.

Departmental spokesperson Robert Maake says the changes in the fuel prices were affected by a number of factors, including the rand’s performance against US dollar.

“The main reasons for these prices adjustment are as follows: Firstly the higher oil prices during the period under review which led to high prices in product, we also saw that the rand actually appreciated against the dollar during the period under review which cushioned the prices around 25 cents.

“Then we have the annual adjustment of the industry margin, minister approved the adjustment on petrol, we added the 14,3 cents on the margins which goes to the industry. On diesel, we added around 7,86 cents on the margin on petrol and paraffin, also on LP Gas, the maximum retail price on LP Gas increased by 62 cents per kilogram, so all these annual margin adjustments affected were announced today.”
