The two municipalities have still not come to a payment agreement to settle their outstanding debt with Eskom.
Eskom says power supply to the municipalities will be interrupted from 8.30am-11.00am and 3.00pm-5.30pm today and tomorrow.
On Monday the schedule will go back to 6.00am-8.00am and 5.00pm-7.30pm from Monday to Friday.
"The interruption of supply as a result of non-payment remains an agonising decision for Eskom and is a means of last resort. We hope the municipalities will come up with a sustainable payment plan and thus avert further interruptions for its citizens," says Eskom Group Executive for Customer Services Ayanda Noah.
To avoid supply interruptions, defaulting municipalities need to meet the following three requirements:
- A cash payment as negotiated with each municipality
- A written undertaking in the form of a Council Resolution that current accounts will be honoured going forward
- A payment plan for the arrears supported by a Council Resolution
