Pretoria mall hit by robbers

Armed robbers stormed a large shopping mall in Pretoria on Tuesday.

Gauteng police say gunmen held up staff at a popular sportswear store. 



Provincial police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says three men entered the store.



"It was about 09:00 when about three men entered the shop from the back of the store and robbed it. We are searching for the suspects. No shots were fired during the robbery," he explains.

He confirms the robbery happened at the Menlyn Shopping Centre. 



This Twitter user advised people to avoid the mall while police combed the scene. 


Netcare911 spokesperson Nick Dollman says reports from the scene allege that armed gunmen held up the staff around the same time the store usually opens. 



Two injured in shooting near Johannesburg mall



"Netcare 911 attended to two victims, one male and one female, who hand been manhandled, thrown to the ground and tied up. A 27-year-old female was injured during the incident and sustained relatively minor injuries. She was in a stable condition and was transported by ambulance to hospital for further assessment and care." 



General manager of the Menlyn Park Shopping Centre, Olive Ndebele, has confirmed the robbery. 


He says: "An armed robbery took place at the Adidas store, on Tuesday 26 September at 09:00. The centre's cecurity immediately responded to the scene and notified the South African Police Services."


The mall was reopened for business in the afternoon.
