Rain disrupts repairs at Roodepoort substation
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
City Power says rain has disrupted its attempts to repair the JG Strydom switching substation in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg.
The lights in the area went out on Tuesday after a fire caused extensive damage to the substation - leaving parts of Roodepoort in the dark.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the heavy rain on Wednesday evening made it difficult for technicians to continue the work.
“The contractor will return to the site this morning to continue with the work, hoping the weather will have mercy. The rain has also affected some of the equipment which we will try to dry this morning.”
The affected areas include Weltevredenpark, Randpark Ridge and Allen's Nek.
Mangena says the outage will continue until the repairs are completed.
“The teams have been ordered to do everything in their power to catch up with the time lost due to the rain, and ensure we still meet our initial deadline.”
