SABC board member resigns
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation has been rocked by the resignation of chartered accountant Rachel Kalidass.

This has dumped the newly-appointed SABC board in a crisis, less than a month after it was confirmed by President Jacob Zuma.
Kalidass was nominated by all the political parties.

Kalidass says in her resignation letter that she disagrees with the board's preferred candidates for the positions of Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Kalidass does not name the candidate for CEO‚ but Democratic Alliance MP Phumzile van Damme names him in a statement as Alan Mukoki.
"There is also a conflict of interest, as a significant #SABC content service provider, the majority of board members were in favour of having him appointed as the SABC CEO.

"I specifically requested for my dissenting view to be recorded, which was received with great hostility by some of the board members present," writes Kalidass.
The Democratic Alliance (DA)'s Phumzile van Damme says it would appear that the bad times are returning to the public broadcaster.
"We will be requesting that the scheduled meeting with the SABC board that was due to take place next Friday be brought forward. So that the concerns raised by Rachel Kalidass be addressed immediately."
