SAPS heads to court over 10111 strike

The South African Police Service (SAPS) will head to the Labour Court in an attempt to obtain an interdict against striking 10111 workers.

Police spokesperson Sally de Beer says striking member from the South African Police Union (SAPU) are intimidating non-striking workers at their offices in Midrand. 

 

"Striking SAPU 10111 employees are sporadically intimidating and threatening non-striking employees. Yesterday these acts escalated into them hurling objects and damaging state vehicles," says de Beer. 

 

Acting National Police Commissioner Lesetja Mothiba has indicated his willingness to meet with both SAPU and Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) in an attempt to break the deadlock. 

 

10111 downed tools on Monday over wage-related issues.

 

Striking workers are set to picket outside various 10111 offices around the country today.
