Senior Gauteng Education official shot dead in Soweto
The Gauteng Department of Education says one of its senior officials Siza Mbhalati was shot dead at his home at Protea Glen in Soweto on Thursday.
Mbhalati served as the department’s deputy chief education specialist in the south of Johannesburg.
He was apparently followed home from work on Thursday afternoon by unknown suspects, who fired multiple shots at him while he was sitting in his car.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane said Mbhalati served the department with honour and dignity.
“On behalf of the department, we wish to extend our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones. In the same breath, we condemn this level of lawlessness and call for the speedy apprehension of these brazen criminals.”
