The trial was supposed to start on Monday.

Advocate Zandile Mshololo, who represents accused number five, Sifisokuhle Ntuli, told the court she was only able to access important documents at the eleventh hour.

This, she told Judge Tshifiwa Maumela, meant she did not have enough time to consult her client.

"I would also like to confirm that during the pre-trial conference the State did indicate that there are statements that are being withheld by the State for security reasons, but they will be given to us towards the trial and were only delivered to us two weeks before the trial,” Mshololo said.

Mshololo also said that she was having difficulty consulting with her client, as he currently serving time in a KwaZulu-Natal prison.

Ntuli has been convicted of the murder of an ANC ward councillor and others.

Muzi Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokozisi Maphisa and Ntuli all stand accused for Meyiwa's murder.

Sibiya, who is accused number one, and Ntanzi, who is accused number 2, are expected to confess to the murder.

Last Thursday, Sibiya was sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted murder.

He is also accused of shooting his girlfriend after she threatened to report his alleged involvement in the Meyiwa murder to the authorities.

He allegedly confessed to her about his involvement.

Speaking to the media outside court, head of AfriForum's private prosecutions, Advocate Gerrie Nel, said he still believes Meyiwa's death was not a robbery gone wrong.

The trial will resume on Tuesday.
