Seven dead in KZN taxi accident

Seven people have died after a taxi went off an embankment on the R102 between Umhlali and Salt Rock in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Friday.
The taxi is said to have been carrying 22 passengers.
The deceased include six women and one man while 15 other passengers sustained moderate to serious injuries.

Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula’s spokesperson, Ayanda Allie-Paine says the taxi driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
“Minister Mbalula has sent his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved and wishes the injured a full and swift recovery,” she said, noting that the investigation into the cause of the accident is still yet to be concluded.
Mbalula is expected to announce final statistics on road fatalities during the festive season on January 23.
