Residents of the area took to the streets on Tuesday to demand the restoration of electricity and an improvement in the delivery of services.

The demands handed to Phalatse include a technician for each Soweto community and the restoration of electricity supply to all households within two months.

“The immediate solution is that each community in Soweto must be allocated a technician to go and sort out all those issues with immediate effect,” said Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla ‘Lux’ Dlamini.

Scores of Soweto residents braved the cold weather to march to Phalaste’s offices in Braamfontein.

Many claim to have been without electricity for weeks and sometimes even months on end.

Diepkloof resident Miriam Mogwera says Ward 27 has been in the dark since last month.

Mogwera warned Phalatse that Soweto residents will have no choice but to bring the country to a standstill if the city fails to find a solution.

Phalatse assured protestors that her office will respond in 14 days by way of a progress report.
