This comes after the Tshwane Audit and Performance Committee (APC) recommended in September that the City Manager write to the office of the Auditor-General to seek an extension to submit its Annual Financial Statements and Performance as of 30 June, the financial year end.

The recommendation was made to afford the capital sufficient time to finalise other outstanding matters on its financials.

Tshwane committed to submit the final financial statements within three months after the Auditor-General had set the deadline to 31 August 2023.

This after City Manager Johann Mettler considered the recommendation of the APC favourably as the deadline extension had afforded the city sufficient time to adequately address some of the findings made by the AG in the 2021/22 Financial Year.

Mettler stated that submission of financial documents is a step in ensuring that the City's financial affairs are properly audited and evaluated.

"The City's financial statements, along with supporting documents, have been prepared in accordance with the relevant accounting standards and regulations.

"They provide a comprehensive overview of the City's financial performance, including revenue, expenditure, assets, and liabilities for the 2022/23 Financial Year. By submitting these documents to the Auditor-General, the City of Tshwane reaffirms its commitment to upholding the highest standards of financial management.

"Auditor General's independent assessment will further enhance the City's accountability and transparency, providing assurance to its residents, Council, Treasury, investors and other relevant stakeholders."
