It is alleged that the two armed men entered a jewellery store in Hendrik Verwoerd Street where they shot and injured the 35-year old shopkeeper.

Two more armed suspects also joined the initial two and they made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery.

Police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says the fleeing suspects fired shots at a private security vehicle, fatally wounding the passenger.

“The suspects then hijacked a nearby Ford Figo and sped off.”

Police who were on routine patrol in the area noticed the hijacking incident.

A chase ensued followed by an exchange of fire between the police and the suspects.

“Police cornered the suspects and during the arrest, recovered the hijacked vehicle, the suspects' getaway car, the stolen cash and jewellery, as well as an unlicensed firearm in the car,” adds Makhubele.

Makhubele says the pair will face charges of murder, attempted murder and hijacking.

The suspects arrested on Thursday are aged between 28 and 29 years old.

The other two suspects managed to get away and are being sought by police.
