KZN police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a pole.

A fifth person travelling with the group was also injured but managed to escape.

“The suspects fled the scene in a getaway vehicle that picked them up at the scene after the incident.

“A backpack was found inside the deceased’s vehicle, with a pack full of ammunition but there was no sign of any firearm," Gwala says.

Gwala adds the victims were traveling in a stolen vehicle.

“An investigation was conducted on the scene and revealed that the deceased’s vehicle was stolen on Joiner Road in Isipingo on the 4th of August 2020. “

A search and rescue team was deployed to the scene to look for the injured victim.

“He was not found,” she says.

Police have not established a motive for the killing.
