Voters must pay close attention to election promises – analyst
A political analyst has advised voters to pay close attention to the promises made by political parties during their election campaigns.
"There are other political parties who will come with a manifesto and say thing that are not achievable or things that they are not able to do,” says Levy Ndou.
“So, it is important for people to know that some political parties or leaders would only stick for the purpose of ensuring they are voted into power."
Ndou's comments come as the country gears up for the elections on 29 May.
The Independent Electoral Commission says almost 28 million people are registered to vote.
"Citizens should look out for people who are patriotic and prepared to serve, people who are selfless and who want to ensure that they do not benefit as individuals, but more importantly, citizens should not vote for leaders who are corrupt," says Ndou.
This year, 70 political parties and 11 independent candidates will contest in the national and provincial elections.
