The elderly adventurist, Rich Moore of Pagosa Springs, southern Colorado, had set out on his hike in August.

He was accompanied by his loyal Jack Russell Finney, but the pair failed to return home on the 19th of August, which set search and rescue missions into motion.

Taos Search and Rescue (Tsar) conducted the initial search and unfortunately had no success. Eventually, Moore's body was found by a hunter on the 30th of October.

The hunter had alerted authorities and according to the Denver Gazette, a search and rescue team were flown in to identify and retrieve Moore's body.

Miraculously, little Finney had stayed by his owner's side the entire time.

Tsar have posted an update on their Facebook page and no foul play is suspected in Moore's death.

After this traumatic experience, Finney has since been reunited with his family after getting a complete checkup by a veterinarian.
