There are a lot of changes that happen when you enter a relationship.

Not only do the individuals change, but the relationship and the couple as a whole might change as well.

While there is a common trend that women think they can "change" the men they are seeing, this never seems to be the case.

When you are in a relationship, you love your partner for who they are, flaws and all.

According to a new TikTok theory, there seem to be significant changes to men's appearance without the girlfriend doing anything intentional.

It's been dubbed "the girlfriend effect".

TikTok user @yzelleduran has shared a video, which at the time of publishing has over 3.2-million views, where she explains "the girlfriend effect" in very basic terms.

She shows viewers a compilation of pictures of her husband before the two of them started dating, followed by a series of videos showing her husband now:

From dishevelled to fashion-forward, "the girlfriend effect" implies that men might try to look more presentable and put-together when they have a significant other.

And it's not just the women showing off.

Another user, @gabesco, documented the effect on him from month to month:

While there's nothing wrong with someone wanting to be the best version of themselves for their partner, this is also a reminder that you shouldn't have to change completely.

Just be yourself and the rest will fall into place.
