Racism continues to be a massive problem around the world and an incident that happened at a popular Australian restaurant is a stark reminder that the world still has a long way to go.

After dining out at the hotspot, customers were shocked to find that they were referred to as ‘two very annoying Asians’ on the receipt of their food order.

The incident took place earlier this month in Brisbane when the two enjoyed an evening out and ordered food from the popular restaurant.

An image of the shocking receipt was shared on Snapchat by a man named Shay Hayston, who is a part-owner of the No. 5 Cafe and The Stand, a popular LGBTQ+ venue in Brisbane.

The image was shared alongside a caption that reads, ‘omg I love my staff’, complete with three crying laughing emojis.

The manager quickly came under fire from a member of staff who called him out for his ‘unprofessional and inappropriate’ behaviour. The manager reportedly dismissed the employee, telling them to “get a grip” and that it was “just a joke.”

After the image was shared on social media, many were shocked at the behaviour of the manager and staff at the trendy restaurant and called the establishment out.

Changing his tune, the manager issued an apology to Daily Mail, saying: “I personally wish to apologise for the offence and hurt caused. I’m deeply disappointed and embarrassed at my actions as they go against everything I pride myself on.”

He adds: “I’ve been a business owner in the area for more than six years, personally and professionally invested in diversity. I’m deeply disappointed and embarrassed at my actions as they go against everything I pride myself on. Internally, my team and I will do better to ensure we uphold the diversity and inclusivity that is at our core.”

The Stand issued a statement of their own saying, “Many of us know the people involved in this incident. They have in the past done incredible things for our community. However, they have made a very ignorant mistake. A mistake they must learn from, apologise and educate themselves on.”
