Many people still believe that marriage is the ultimate form of love that justify the love between two human beings. According to Pretorius, it is not the "ultimate".

"Marriage is not the ultimate and it is also not unimportant. It’s the beautiful middle ground where it gives companionship, but not salvation. Joy, but not satisfaction. Common purpose, but not ultimate life meaning. It is not nothing either. It is significant in its ability to unify two broken people; in cultivating a deep humility in oneself as you are faced with your weaknesses and worst qualities. It is the wholehearted giving of oneself to one another fueled and enabled by the ultimate source of unconditional love. It’s the most beautiful reflection of God on earth, but it is not the key element to a happy and fulfilling life.

"Don’t despise the season you’re in. Don’t romanticize and dream yourself out of contentment. No spouse or partner can fulfil your heart’s desire to be fully known and truly loved.

"It’s much safer, healthier and fulfilling to keep marriage at the position of companionship, and not lordship."

Simoné Pretorius spoke to the Scenic Drive team about her letter and how marriage is not actually the "ultimate".
