Uber users speak out amid threats of violence
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Police are monitoring pick-up areas near Gautrain stations amid threats of violence by metered taxi drivers against Uber.
The situation remains quiet at the Sandton and Rosebank stations, with a few police vehicles patrolling the area.
Messages have been doing the round, in which people who claim to be metered taxi drivers threaten to assault Uber drivers and passengers.
They claim Uber is stealing their business.
Uber drivers have told JacarandaFM News they are scared to operate in Rosebank.
They are not working around Sandton today and at Rosebank they are just stopping and dropping off passengers quickly.
These passengers say the threat of violence is a major inconvenience.
Police spokesperson, Captain Kay Makhubela said police have been deployed to areas where they know there is a high demand for Uber.
"We are warning those people who are sending out the message to threaten the people that if we investigate and find who they are, they will be arrested," said Makhubela.
