Woman refuses to go on family vacation after mother-in-law crosses boundary

Not all in-laws are as nasty as pop culture has made then out to be, but some will do anything to get their way...

Blended families are no longer as taboo as they once were. Co-parenting has become very popular with divorced couples who have children, and people are willing to accept that their partners might have a past.

However, every family is different and just because something might work for you and your ex, doesn't mean that it will work for others.

And then you also might have to deal with nosy and manipulative in-laws.

One Reddit user recently posted about a seriously uncomfortable dilemma on the super popular Reddit thread, AITA (Am I The A**hole).

As the thread suggests, it helps posters by stating their problem and having other users determine whether or not the person in question is in the wrong or not.

User kc3292 started by explaining that her husband has a six-year-old daughter, Sophie, from a previous relationship.

She also said: "I love Sophie to death I really do, I view her as my own and treat her like so which has been perfectly okay and completely encouraged by my in laws and husband and me and Sophie have an amazing bond."

The family had been planning a trip to California to visit extended family and to introduce the kids to their great-grandmother and cousins for the first time.

This is where the story takes a turn as her mother-in-law casually mentioned one day that Sophie's mother will be coming along too.

The woman was shocked by this, since no one was aware of these plans except for the mother-in-law and the ex.

The post has since been updated with a few more details such as the couple having to take the ex to court because she wouldn't allow the husband time with his daughter and that the husband has also decided not to go if Sophie's mom comes along.

Obviously, many took to the comments to share their opinions and help determine who is in the wrong here, and it seems like most people are on the side of the wife:

While users on the internet can continue to debate about the situation, hopefully the woman and her family can work things out and everyone can have a lovely vacation.
