Claims of intimidation by the crime-fighting unit surfaced at this morning's committee meeting, with Rantho complaining of unauthorised surveillance by the officers.

The committee is probing alleged state capture at Eskom.

Rantho says officers have requested confidential information from her, including her home address.

"We cannot ignore these things that makes us lose focus. I have already lost my focus. I've been told that there are Hawks in here whom what all my details. I am really disturbed. I am not sure if I am able to continue with this. I don't know which type of Hawks these are who come to Parliament."

Members of the committee have faced death threats in the past. There have also been claims of attempted bribery, allegedly by State Security Minister Bongani Bongo, in an attempt to derail the committee's work.

The Democratic Alliance's (DA) Natasha Mazzone says Parliament need to intensify the inquiry into state capture at the power utility.

"Chair, enough with the niceties. Let's just put it on the table we want the Gupta brothers, Salim Essa, Eric Woods, Duduzane Zuma, Dudu Myeni and the President here. We must stop this now. We are in charge of this committee. We are the first line of defence for 54 million South Africans who are waiting for us to ensure this country isn't captured any further than it already has been."

The Hawks has however denied any wrongdoing.

"We are busy with our own investigation, parallel to what is happening in parliament," explains the Hawks' Hangwani Mulaudzi. "So there is some information that we might need from these deliberations or they might want us to assist them with something. This is why we said we need the cooperation."
